In an interview of 12 February 2021, Aldo Verbruggen emphasizes the need to avoid strict liability of executives in white collar cases, also in light of the recent developments regarding the Review Committee on High Transactions:

“The cases that will be assessed by the Review Committee do not concern criminal organisations. Instead, these cases involve legitimate, economic activities of companies that are vital to the Dutch economy. And yes, something may go wrong every now and then. However, we need to appreciate our executives and should not expose them to criminal liability too easily.”
